Elevator Pitch Competition

Pitch your agri-livelihood idea in 90 seconds and win P10,000! (click here for Filipino translation)

One member from each DSWD Convergence team will make a 90-second elevator pitch on their agriculture livelihood innovation via Youtube video.

The designated team member will have 90 seconds to introduce himself/herself by name and then pitch the plan. Team members cannot use note cards or other props to assist them with their pitches.

The time limit is strict, and videos exceeding 90-seconds will be automatically disqualified. Therefore, it is important that elevator pitch entrants prepare a concise, timed summary of the agri-livelihood innovation idea.

At the conclusion of the presentations, judges will score the presentations. One winner will be announced and receive a P 10,000 cash prize to be spent at their teams discretion. All winners are at the sole discretion of the judges and their decisions are final.

What an “Elevator Pitch” is: Imagine that you so happen to be in the same elevator as the Mayor of your city/municipality, or Governor of your province. An Elevator Pitch is an extremely concise presentation of your agriculture livelihood project idea delivered to the Mayor/Governor. It should not last more than 90 seconds, or the duration of an elevator ride. What an “Elevator Pitch” is not: It is not a “sales pitch.” Don’t get caught up in using the entire pitch to tell the stakeholders how great your end product or service is. The Mayor/Governor is “buying” the program idea for her to support through the LCE's executive actions, local legislation, and/or budget allocation, or whatever governance innovation and business model is needed to make your idea happen. It should not exceed 90 seconds in length.

How is Bridging Leadership deployed? Bridging Leadership is a way of inducing change and mobilizing people and resources toward a shared goal beyond the limitations of agency budgets and individual job descriptions. It activates informal authority and influence within the Bridging Leader and among partners in order to do work that is initially perceived/dis-owned as "dagdag na trabaho" or "not my job". Bridging Leadership helps shift mindsets from "Pay ayaw, may dahilan" to "Pag gusto, may paraan".

Through ownership, co-ownership, and co-creation, a MAT member despite her youth and limited authority can mobilize partners and co-create breakthrough programs with other teammates, external partners, and partner 4P households. Make sure to mention how Bridging Leadership (ownership, co-ownership, co-creation) is deployed within your project and Elevator Pitch.

Creating the “Elevator Pitch”Criteria your “Elevator Pitch” might address include:

  1. Project Name, Who are you? Did you identify your name, CMAT Team slogan, and Project Name. Your Project Name should be catchy and memorable like the title of a movie.

  2. Need, What need is project/service offering a solution to? Briefly describe what it is your project will solve without the non technical details. Explain the problem your 4P clients face and how this solves their problems.

  3. Who is your market? Briefly discuss who you are selling the product or service to. What industry is it? How large of a market do they represent?

  4. What is the financing and sustainability model? More simply, how does your project expect to regenerate the resources to sustain it? Do you sell the product to wholesalers for a flat fee? Do you charge a subscription? Do you split revenues with a partner?

  5. Who is behind your project? “Bet on the jockey, not the horse” is a familiar saying among partner-supporters. Tell them a little about you and your team’s background and achievements. If you have a strong advisory board, tell them who they are and what they have accomplished.

  6. Who is your competition? Don’t have any? Think again. Briefly discuss who they are and what they have accomplished. Successful competition is an advantage-they are proof your business model and/or concept work.

  7. What is your project's competitive advantage? Simply being funded is not enough. You need to effectively communicate how your project is different and why you partners and clients will pay attention/spend time with your project over other projects. A better distribution channel? Key partners? Innovative use of technology?

  8. Resource mobilization/Co-creation Strategy, What are you seeking? What are you looking for from the Mayor/Governor? How much money you need and what it will let you do? Which other partners do you want the Mayor/Governor to bring into your Project?

  9. Gains measured thru SWDI indicator, how does this Project contribute to economic improvement of the 4P partner households? What is the cause-and-effect relationship between your project and upliftment of livelihood indicators of 4P households? How many households will be affected in your municipality by 2019? How can this be a part of your team's Convergence Initiative (click here)?
